Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 01: Arrival Amritsar
Welcomed at the airport by an GTC representative, you will be transferred to your hotel. Day at leisure to relax and unwind. Overnight at the hotel. (Vehicle for Transfer)
  • Day 02: Amritsar
This morning we'll visit the spectacular Golden Temple – the most sacred temple for the Sikhs. It is a symbol of the magnificence and strength of the Sikh people all over the world. This temple is a great example of the spirit of tolerance and acceptance that the Sikh philosophy propounds. In the evening we will visit the Wagah Border (The India-Pakistan border at Wagah) to watch the now famous Border Retreat Ceremony. The pageant of the beating of the retreat and the change of guard within handshaking distance of the Indian and Pakistani forces here makes this a fascinating spectacle to watch. Wagah is the only land border open between Pakistan and India. Overnight at the hotel. (Vehicle for Sightseeing)
  • Day 02: Amritsar

  • Day 03: Amritsar - Delhi (By Train)
Morning after breakfast visit Jallianwala Bagh- Martyrs' Memorial built in the shape of eternal flame of liberty which is situated on the outskirts of Golden Temple. Here about 1500 and 2000 persons who were attending a peaceful meeting during the freedom movement fell under the bullets of the British General Dyer on 13 April 1919. Later transfer to railway station to board the superfast air-conditioned train to Delhi (1700/2300). Dinner aboard the train. Received by a representative at the Delhi railway station and transferred to hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
  • Day 04: Delhi
After breakfast proceed for a sightseeing tour of Old & New Delhi : OLD DELHI - A sight-seeing tour of Old Delhi would entail visiting the Raj Ghat - the memorial site where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated; Jama Masjid - the largest mosque in India. NEW DELHI - An extensive sight-seeing tour of New Delhi would include a visit to the Humayun's Tomb, the Qutub Minar, a drive along the ceremonial avenue - Rajpath, past the imposing India Gate, Parliament House, the President's Residence and ending with a drive through the Diplomatic Enclave. Overnight at the hotel.
  • Day 05: Delhi - Varanasi (by Flight)
After breakfast transfer to the airport to board the flight to Varanasi. Greeted by a representative at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Varanasi, said to be the India's most sacred city is situated on the western bank of the holy river Ganga. It is also the oldest living city in the world. As a place for devotion and worship, with hundreds of temples dotting the city, sunrise on the river front as seen from a boat can be a spiritually uplifting sight. It has a fascination uniquely its own, a quality of sublime beauty, a timeless eternal appeal. Varanasi is the city which cannot be described, only experienced. In the evening enjoy a sightseeing tour of Varanasi covering Temples, Aurangzeb's Mosque and one of the biggest universities of India. Attend the evening view "Aarti" ceremony on the river banks. Overnight at the hotel.
  • Day 06: Varanasi
Morning: Boat-cruise on the river Ganges to observe the way of life of pilgrims by the Ghats. Later enjoy an excursion to Sarnath, 10kms east of Varanasi, which is one of the Buddhism's major centers in India. After attaining enlightenment, the Buddha came to Sarnath where he gave his first sermon. Visit the deer park and the museum and later drive back to Varanasi. Overnight at the hotel.
  • Day 07: Varanasi - Khajuraho (by Flight)
Transfer to the airport for the flight to Khajuraho. Upon arrival check in at your hotel. The small sleepy town of Khajuraho was once the religious capital of the mighty Chandela dynasty, which built 85 magnificent temples here and decorated them with intricate and lively erotic sculptures drawing inspiration from and illustrating concepts from the Kama Sutra, an ancient Indian text on love. Only twenty two of these highly erotic sandstone temples remain, though they are well preserved and showcase a prolific period of Hindu temple sculpture though the importance of eroticism in these temples is still a mystery. Post lunch visit both, the eastern & western group of temples. Overnight at the hotel.
  • Day 08: Khajuraho - Orchha (by Surface)
After breakfast drive to Orchha's fort complex. Like something straight out of an Indiana Jones film, this sleepy village has much to show of its glorious past. Huge crumbling temples and palaces rise out of the surrounding jungle, overlooking the undulating hills and the wide boulder-strewn Betwa River. A small village can be found amongst the ruins of this once mighty city, which was the capital of the Bundhela kingdom from 1531 to 1783. Overnight at the hotel.
  • Day 09 : Orchha - Jhansi - Bhopal (by Train /Surface)
After breakfast transfer to Jhansi railway station to board train to Bhopal. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the hotel.Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, is a fascinating amalgam of scenic beauty, old historic city and modern urban planning. It is the 11th century city Bhojpal, founded by Raja Bhoj, but the present city was established by an Afghan soldier, Dost Mohammed (1707-1740). His descendants built Bhopal into a beautiful city.
  • Day 10: Bhopal - Indore - Maheshwar (By Flight/Surface)
After breakfast transfer to Bhopal airport to board flight to Indore. On arrival transfer to Maheshwar. Rest of day at leisure. Maheshwar is located on the banks of the Narmada and is an important pilgrimage centre. Its beautiful temples and ghats were elected by Queen Ahilyabai in the mid 18th century. Maheshwar's temples and mighty fort-complex stand in quiet beauty, mirrored in the river below. This benevolent Queen was described by a British colonial official as "one of the purest and most exemplary rulers that ever lived". Late afternoon take a boat ride on the river. Overnight at the hotel.
  • Day 11: Maheshwar (Day-trip to Omkareshwar)
After breakfast take a day excursion to Omkareshwar. Omkareshwar, the sacred island, shaped like the holiest of all Hindu symbols, 'Om', has drawn to it hundreds of generations of pilgrims. Here, at the confluence of the rivers Narmada and Kaveri, the devout gather to kneel before the Jyotirlinga (one of the twelve throughout India) at the temple of Shri Omkar Mandhata. Overnight at the hotel.
  • Day 12: Maheshwar

  • Day 13 : Maheshwar - Indore - Mumbai (by Surface/Flight)
After breakfast you are transferred to Indore airport to board a flight to Mumbai. On arrival transfer to hotel. The western state of Maharashtra is home to Bombay, India's greatest port, financial capital and trend-setting East-West nexus. Perched on the Arabian Sea on an island and separated from the rest of India by a winding creek, Bombay- now known as Mumbai, is a world unto itself, with a unique intensity that hits you the moment you land. Its culture is contemporary and vibrant and reflects both the affluence and poverty of more than 15 million people crowded onto this island. Restaurants, bars, museums and shops intermingle with shining new skyscrapers, congested streets, bright neon lights and the glamorous film industry of Bollywood. Post lunch visit Gateway of India, the principal landmark of Mumbai. A major landmark of this vibrant city is the VT or Victoria Terminus, which was designed in Italian Gothic style by F. W. Stevens. Stop over at Mani Bhawan, a small museum dedicated to the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi and the bustling Crawford Market, before returning your hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
  • Day 14: Mumbai - Departure

When Should I go?

The months of September through to March are considered to be favourable months to travel to India. September has the added advantage of being in the “good weather” bracket but also technically falls in the off season in most places, so prices are cheaper for travel in September. The months of October through to February are pleasant in most parts of the country, though you will find the temperatures varying between chilly in the North and warmer in the southern parts of the country.

India’s weather is varied and different parts of the country may get monsoons at different times. May and June are hot months across the country except for the hill stations in the North.

The country gets monsoons in the months of June and July though along the south western coast, there are monsoons in the period between October to December too.

June and July are monsoon months in Kerala, the showers being heavy at first and then easing off gradually. Whilst these are not the best months for tours, interestingly, this happens to the best time for travellers seeking the therapeutic Ayurveda treatment which is said to be most effective in these months.
