Detailed Itinerary

  • DAY 01: Arrive Cochin - Guruvayoor (80 km / 2.5 hrs)
You will be greeted by a Globe Travel Centre representative at the airport and transferred to Guruvayoor, the temple town near Thrissur, also known as the cultural capital of Kerala. Check into your hotel. One of the most sacred and important pilgrim centres in Kerala, the main attraction in Guruvayoor is the Sree Krishna Temple. Relax and unwind on your first day. Overnight at the Krishna Inn with a vehicle provided for your transfer.
  • DAY 02: Guruvayoor (Total biking distance: 15 km Terrain: Plain)
Cycling starts with a tour around the town giving you the opportunity to see the many cultural attractions of Guruvayoor, In the evening, see a demonstration of Kalaripayattu, the Martial Arts of Kerala. Overnight at the Krishna Inn with a backup vehicle provided.
  • DAY 03: Guruvayoor - Cochin (Total biking distance: 70 km Terrain: Plain)
Start early in the morning and cycle through the coastal back roads towards Fort Kochi, the cultural part of Cochin, passing through fishing villages, paddy fields and small villages along the way. Break for lunch at a beach. After lunch, continue the ride and cross the harbour mouth at the Vypeen Islands, crossing over to Fort Cochin by ferry. Check into your hotel. Overnight at the Secret Garden hotel with a backup vehicle provided. Distances can be shortened based on cyclist's experience.
  • DAY 04: Cochin (Total biking distance: 15 km Terrain: Plain)
Explore the old quarter of Fort Kochi, visiting the many fascinating highlights of Cochin; including, the Jewish Synagogue; St. Francis Church, the oldest European Church in India; the Santa Cruz Basilica, which was built in 1557 by the Portuguese; the Dutch Palace; the Spice Market; and the 15th century Chinese fishing nets believed to have been brought by Chinese traders. In the evening, board a ferry to go over to the bustling part of Cochin, Ernakulam, and visit the Broadway and the busy bazaars. Overnight at the Secret Garden hotel with a backup vehicle provided.
  • DAY 05: Cochin - Alleppey (Total biking distance: 60 km Terrain: Plain)
After breakfast, start your cycling trail for the day. Leaving the busy roads of Fort Cochin, you will hit a beach road that will take you to the Raheem's Residency. Riding through the fishing villages and coconut plantations with the sea on one side is an exhilarating experience. Stop at Andhakaranazhy, a great stretch of beach, where you will have lunch. You will also stop at the Arthunkal Church by the sea. On arrival at the resort, relax by the poolside and spend the evening at leisure.   • DAY 06: Houseboat
Transfer to you houseboat where you will embark on your private houseboat and cruise the backwaters, a splendid area full of canals, lakes and coves. Your houseboats, or Kettuvalloms, are luxurious boats with well-appointed bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms. You can sunbathe on the deck or observe the palm-fringed landscape from your cabins. Apart from the mesmerizing surroundings, it is the life along the backwaters that makes this a fascinating experience. The locals travel in canoes, and you will find vegetable sellers, fishermen and other traders bringing household goods door-to-door in small, wooden boats. As you cruise along the backwaters, ask your captain to stop at villages, paddy fields and other places en route. Overnight on board the houseboat with full board.
  • DAY 07: Houseboat - Kollam (Total biking distance: 35 km Terrain: Slight gradients/mostly plain)
Disembark at Thottapally and drive a small distance and then hop on to the cycle and cycle to Fragrant Nature, eco-lodge, set in a typical Kerala village. Overnight at the Palm Lagoon hotel with a backup vehicle provided.
  • DAY 08: Kollam - Kovalam (Total biking distance: 45 km Terrain: Slight gradients/mostly plain)
Start cycling in the morning and make the best of the cool early hours as we ride towards the great beaches in the South. We will end our cycling adventure at Kaniyapuram near Trivandrum and be transferred to Kovalam, one of the most popular beach destinations in Kerala, and check into your hotel. Kovalam consists of three adjacent crescent beaches separated by rocky headlands, of which the southernmost, Lighthouse Beach, is the most famous. The azure waters and favourable climate make Kovalam a favourite year-round destination for each lovers. Overnight at the Thapovan Heritage Home with a backup vehicle provided.
  • DAY 09: Kovalam
Have a day of leisure on the beach. Enjoy a rejuvenating full-body Ayurveda massage. Overnight at the Thapovan Heritage Home with a backup vehicle provided.
  • DAY 10: Kovalam - Trivandrum (25 km / 1 hr)
Departure transfer to Trivandrum airport for your return flight.

When Should I go?

Being a coastal state surrounded by the Arabian Sea and because of its proximity to the equator, Kerala has a more or less consistent temperature pattern in the summers and the monsoons alike. The temperature hovers around 29°C throughout the year with varying levels of humidity.

Monsoon Months in Kerala

June and July are monsoon months in Kerala, the showers being heavy at first and then easing off gradually. Whilst these are not the best months for tours, interestingly, this happens to the best time for travellers seeking the therapeutic Ayurveda treatment which is said to be most effective in these months.

Best months for travel to Kerala

The months of October through to March are considered to be the most favourable months to travel to Kerala when the weather is sunny and pleasant. The months of April and May are also favourable for travel but the humidity tends to be comparatively higher. August and September are also good months for travel.
